The photo below shows my previous antenna used in the years 1999-2002.
My QTH was on the second floor in a 6-story apartment building, next to an 11-story building.
My antenna was a wire dipole (technically, a half-wave end-fed wire antenna) supported by a glass fiber fishing rod.
It was a full-size monobander for only 15m band (21MHz), and worked well without an antenna tuner.
The fishing rod could be shortened to be placed into the balcony.
Only when I was QRV, I stretched the fishing rod to use the antenna.
Using this antenna at the QTH, I worked 119 DXCC-entities with QRPp 500 milliwatts (1S, 3D2/F, 3D2/C, 3D2/R, 3W, 4W, 5B, 5N, 5W, 6W, 7X, 9A, 9M2, 9M6, 9V, A3, BQ9, BV, BY, C2, CE, CE0/E, CT, CT3, CX, DL, DU, E5/N, E5/S, EA, EA6, EA8, EL, ES, EU, EX, F, FK, FK/C, FM, FO/A, FO/M, FO/P, FW, G, GM, H4, H40, HA, HB, HC8, HL, HS, I, JA, JD/M, JD/O, JT, KC4/A, KH0, KH1, KH2, KH4, KH6, KH8/A, KL, LU, LY, LZ, OA, OE, OH, OH0, OK, OM, ON, P2, PA, PY, R, R9, S5, SM, SP, T2, T30, T32, T8, UA2, UN, UR, V6, V7, V8, VE, VK, VK9/C, VK9/L, VK9/M, VK9/N, VP6, VQ9, VR2, W, XU, XW, XX9, XZ, YB, YJ, YL, YO, Z3, ZK2, ZK3, ZL, ZL7, ZP, ZS) and 180 DXCC-entities with QRP 5 watts (including 3A, 3B8, 3C, 3V, 4S, 5H, 5T, 6Y, 7Q, 8P, 8Q, 9G, 9J, 9N, A5, C5, CN, D4, EA9, EK, EZ, FR, HB0, HP, KH3, KH5K, R1M, JX, OD, PJ4, T7, TI, V5, VU, Z2, ZA, ZD7).
Great ears !!

My Power: 500mW QRPp; My Antenna: the above fishing rod wire antenna.
EL2WW's antenna was a broad-band dipole(1,2) according to his mail. Please note that, about 20 minutes after this QSO, I made a QRPp 500mW QSO with EA8BWP, who was also using a dipole according to his QSL. Amazing band conditions on the day !!
Please see also DXCC - QRPp 500mW/Dipole.
In the web page, the QSOs made in 1999-2002 were achieved using the fishing-rod antenna at the QTH.
As you can see from the above photo, there are two big buildings in the direction of Europe and USA.
But, even with QRPp or QRP output power, I was able to work many stations in those areas.
Please note that most of the QSOs with western Europe, southern Europe and north-western Africa stations were via long paths (i.e., Japan - Pacific Ocean - southen edge of Argentina - Atlantic Ocean - Sahara Desert - Europe).
Also via short paths, I was able to work many stations in USA, Russia and eastern Europe thanks to their excellent receiving ability.
